Informed Consent Form

This is a senior thesis study conducted by Ryan Gersovitz. I am studying eye-witness identification ability for different types of Police lineups. You will be asked to watch a short video and then to participate in a photographic lineup procedure. Your participation will require approximately 10-15 minutes.

The data collected in this experiment will be anonymous. Your name will not be stored with the data, and this consent form will be stored separately from your data.

If successful, this study may contribute to our understanding of how people make decisions in lineups, and could help improve how lineups are conducted by Police, making them more just.

Your participation in this study is entirely voluntary. You may refuse to answer individual questions or to engage in individual activities. You may also discontinue all participation in this study at any time.

I will be glad to answer any questions about the procedures of this study. Answers to questions on topics that might influence the outcome of the study may be deferred until the end of the session, when I will explain the purpose of the study in more detail. I can be contacted at gersovir@reed.edu.

Concerns about any aspect of this study may be referred to Professor Dan Reisberg, thesis advisor, reisberg@reed.edu, (503) 517-7402, or to the Chair of the Reed College Human Subjects Research Committee, Professor Albyn Jones, jones@reed.edu, 503-517-7418.
