A Pretty Tragedy

In conclusion, my feelings on this relationship can be summed up as:

There is a romantic element to the relationshop between Link and Zelda
It isn't talked about in the game because the characters never act upon it.
Zelda later marries someone else, Link is sent back to his own time.

I don't know, but the whole ethics of the relationship adds another twisty level of respect for Zelda. Clearly she isn't some love-driven ditz. She's colder and harder than a lot of people give her credit for, and she has a kind of ruthless practicality. It also demonstrates her level of self-sacrifice.

Poor Zelda. It seems she would deny herself joy so that her kingdom may have peace. Childish giggling aside, I'm not sure I could picture the adult Zelda as happy. Content, yes, but she seems to me an elegant and chaste woman, running herself on more or less scientific principles.

I do still hope that in the future we will see the LinkxZelda relationship acted out in less doomed terms. I think it's a possibility that in the next Zelda game, with a very adult Link, we might see more concrete evidence for the LinkxZelda pairing. However, like I said, I'm not a big fan of overt romances, but I think they'll keep it subtle if they ever tackle that subject at all.
