About the Site

Amends began its life as Quantum Leap, a Kain shrine owned by Alex of jowy.net. When she decided to close her domain and adopt out her sites, I jumped at the chance to own this one. (I had always wanted a Final Fantasy IV shrine, you see.) She gave me the files, and I put a new layout up and gave it a new name, and, well, here we are. I adopted the site in August of 2005.

Though most of the media content is the same as what Alex left to me, since I adopted the site I've done a lot with the written content. It's all structured along the original words, but I've changed the sentences and the words to fit my feelings on the character. It's hard to tell where her shrine ends and mine begins, to be honest, but I felt odd keeping someone's site hosted on my network and not making it mine. I started trying to revamp the site in earnest in early 2006, but I got really distracted somewhere along the way.

About the Name

Like I said before, the site was originally called Quantum Leap, but I changed it to Amends for reasons unknown even to myself. I just...felt like changing it, so I did.

I went my standard "the thesaurus is your friend" route towards finding a new name for this shrine. Amends is what I came up with. I like it because it's a bit vague- like the character. To amend oneself is to improve upon oneself. To make amends is both to ask forgiveness for past arguments and to provide recompense. The just solutions are not always happy ones. The theme of redemption is blatant in Final Fantasy IV, and at the end Kain is still seeking forgiveness.

Light gives of itself freely, filling all available space. It does not seek anything in return; it asks not whether you are friend or foe. It gives of itself and is not thereby diminished.
